Milton Erickson (1901 – 1980) an American psychiatrist and psychologist was the first to understand a seemingly simple yet profound tool- tapping into the power of the ‘unconscious mind’. He believed that the unconscious mind was almost like a reservoir of resources that are collected voluntarily or involuntarily throughout a person’s life. He discovered a simple but profound way of tapping into the power of the unconscious mind. Erickson figured out exactly where each of us needed to look for the answers to our life’s myriad problems and the answer is ‘inside’.
He discovered a simple but profound way of practical help, tapping into the power of the unconscious mind, in creatively finding life solutions that were right for them. You could put it this way: everything you need is within you right now. By harnessing your inner resources, you can find practical solutions that would radically improve your lives right here, right now.
Erikson developed an original set of strategies that made him the most proficient practitioner of the 20th century and perhaps of all time, helping almost every patient or client achieve clarity in their outlook towards life.
He became famous for being able to help almost any patient or client.
He is noted for influencing strategic family therapy, family systems therapy, and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). Erickson is noted for his approach to the unconscious mind as creative, client-centered, and solution-generating.
"The unconscious mind is made up of all your learnings over a lifetime, many of which you have forgotten, but which serve you in your automatic functioning." – Milton Erickson
Before Erickson, psychologists had thought about the possibility of human change from a medical point of view. If you wanted to change your life, the first thing a psychologist would do was diagnose a "mental health issue" and make you "patient" in a long process of recovery. So if you were a healthy person, just looking to improve some area of your life, there would be no way to get professional help without first becoming a "patient".
For more than a decade, people simply marveled at Erickson's abilities till Jay Haley came along and "cracked the code". He wrote the first book that analyzed Erickson's method in detail. Soon scholars and students from around the world flocked to Erickson's side, including Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who are known as the primary originators of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
Erickson’s idea of looking within oneself rather than fishing for help from outside, not only redefined medical science and psychology, but also our very perception of the power of the human mind. Every resource we need to heal ourselves is always within our grasp – all we have to do is reach out for it. The Core Calmfidence System process aims at doing this for you – introducing you to the healing power present within you. That’s what our goal is-integrating conscious & unconscious to unity and self-acceptance
